Dame Mary Rosa Alleyne Hunnings, known professionally as Mary Berry, is an English writer, cook, baker and television presenter. After being encouraged to take home science classes at school, she studied food management and transportation at university. She then moved to France at the age of 21 to study at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, before doing some cooking related work. She has published over 75 cookbooks, including the bestselling baker Bible in 2009. Her first book was The Hamlyn All Color Cookbook in 1970. She has hosted several television series for the BBC and Thames Television. Berry is an occasional contributor to Women's Hour and Saturday Kitchen. She was a judge on the BBC One TV show The Great British Bake Off from its debut in 2010 until 2016, when the show moved to Channel 4
